What is a Whiskey/ Bourbon tasting?

- Taking a few bottles of Whiskey 3-4 options is a great tasting
- Approx 1 oz pours
- Decide the theme of your tasting, are you comparing like proofs, comparable styles or a brand comparable. This is up to you, it could just that you got a few new bottles and you want to try them up against one another. The thing that I would be mindful of is the proof and putting your high proof before the lower proofs, they may cause burn out and your lower proofs will be very muted out.
- If you want to taste the pure unchanged pour, go neat, but you should eventually try each pour with a little water and on the rocks. You do not need to do it all at once though.
- Using a wider base glass like a neat glass or glencarin glass is a go to option for me. I recommend these as the surface area is expanded at the bottom but a more narrow drinking area to concentrate the scent.
- Tastings are fun, mix it up and do what you feel is the most enjoyable.
- I really like doing a scored blind tasting, it allows me the opportunity to score each bottle without any pressure of the brand, price tag or what I have heard about the bourbon.
